My favorite time of year in New Mexico is late summer when the wildflowers are exploding. One morning when I attempted to capture them, I heard the faintest sound. At my feet lay a mule deer fawn, curling into itself, it's own little secret.

After August, my second favorite time of year to visit New Mexico is autumn. The light is clear, the air is crisp, and you can almost always hear the elk calling during the rut. I initially just wanted to capture the golden light that settles in the valley in the late afternoon, but as it progressed I wanted to sneak in those family memories as well.

The Rio Grande Valley rift is such a powerful and otherwordly site. To me, it looks like God took a chisel and hammered into the landscape, creating this magnificent crack. It's an odd composition to tackle since it almost acts like a secondary horizon line, but I played around with it and landed with this.
